Romans 5:8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.
This is awesome, first the word commendeth is “synistemi” in the Greek it means to “place together, unite, band together, abide” What Paul is saying is that God shows us his love by placing himself into us. We are united with Christ and it isn’t just figuratively or allegorically…Christ actually dwells inside us. Ephesians 2:6 And hath raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places (resting) in Christ Jesus.
Secondly, Paul tells us that this union is based off of Christ’s love. We read in the next chapter of Ephesians 3:18-19 May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height. And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fullness of God. This love that Christ has for us knows no bounds, has no ending, and is an eternal love. The word breadth is “platos” in the Greek and only used two other times in the scriptures. The word is used in Revelation 20:9 to describe the monumental event when Satan is finally defeated and sent to the lake of fire. Then in Revelation 21:16 talking about the “new Jerusalem”, essentially telling of the new heaven and earth. We really are loved and we are loved so much that these two monumental, history changing events were the only things that could even come close enough to compare Christ’s love for his children to.
One last thing to think about, Christ’s love that brings us into union with himself was done…”while we were sinners” We didn’t have to buy a box of girl scout cookies, walk old people across the street, BE GOOD!!! This was done by Christ’s unmerited favor and because he choose us before the foundation of the world. REMEMBER that you are loved, accepted, adopted and in-dwelt by the Creator Himself.
