Since I have died, I no longer live for myself, but for Christ.

– For the love of Christ controls us, because we have concluded this: that one has died for all, therefore all have died; and he died for all, that those who live no longer live for themselves but for him who for their sake died and was raised. (2 Corinthians 5:14-15)

The key to this verse is LOVE! Romans 5:8 tells us that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, a profound testament to the depth of divine grace. Paul is stressing that we didn’t “do” anything to gain this love; it was not earned through our actions or merits. Instead, it is a gift freely given, highlighting an unconditional acceptance that surpasses our failings and shortcomings. Essentially, as Martin Luther says, “all we bring to the table is our sin,” emphasizing that our inherent flaws actually make us more reliant on this boundless love. This divine act of sacrifice serves not only as a reminder of our weaknesses but also as an invitation to embrace the transformative power of grace, encouraging us to extend love and compassion to others in the same manner we have received it.

But God, the one who loved us first, comes in and saves the day, transforming our lives with His grace and mercy…a true superhero!!! His love knows no bounds, overflowing into every aspect of our existence and inspiring us to live purposefully. The overflow of this love is now how we live to love God, cherishing our relationship with Him daily, and how we strive to show this love to our neighbors, embodying kindness, compassion, and generosity in our actions. In this way, we become conduits of His incredible love, reflecting a light that can brighten even the darkest corners of the world, and encouraging others to experience this divine love for themselves.
