…but God #2

Genesis 3:9
But the Lord God called to the man and said to him, “Where are you?”

We are continuing in the Garden of Eden and Adam and Eve just ate of the tree of knowledge of good and evil. They both now know the good that they don’t have and the evil that dwells inside of them. The interesting part of this whole story is that Adam and Eve literally were living out a “mountain top” experience. Like I mentioned in my last post, the Garden of Eden was a mountaintop and we are told the Lord walked in the garden with them. However in their humanity they fell to the temptation of something better…all the while not realizing they had everything they required for a perfect existence.

But God..asked where are you?? The fact is, God knew exactly what they had done and where they were. Adam and Eve were in desperate need for forgiveness, grace and mercy they just didn’t know where to look. Many times in our lives we feel the same way. We know we have sinned but we hid from it. We would rather just forget about it or rationalize it away. Our Father in heaven has bigger plans for us and uses the Holy Spirit to convicte us and show us our sin.

Later in the chapter we hear that God clothed Adam and Eve. In order to be clothed God couldn’t go to the local Walmart and buy them some undies, God had to kill an animal and use that to cover Adam and Eve. This is a huge deal because it prefigures exactly what the death, burial and resurrection of Christ will do for us!!!

1 Peter 1:18-19 Knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.

Christ has done all the work for us, Christ being the perfect sacrifice, the one who shed his blood on the cross, clothes us in his righteousness and in turn gives us eternal life. Just as God covered Adam and Eve sin with a sacrifice, Christ now is our eternal sacrifice. There is no sin too great that can’t be forgiven. Live knowing you are assuredly and fully forgiven.
