but God…#13

2 Samuel 22:32“For who is Godbut the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?

This is a wonderful chapter in 2 Samuel…well it is actually a song. This is David’s song.  he writes at the beginning of the chapter about God’s deliverance from “his enemies and from Saul (vs1)” Saul, the first king of Israel, was after David because Saul didn’t want to give up power, prestige and most significantly not being allowing God to lead. David, God’s chosen king spent years running from Saul, losing family and friends along the way. However at the end of the day, David looks back on his life and realizes that the key and only contributor to his safety and Joy was only through the working of Christ in his life. We then get this wonderful song that is glorifying God.

We read in this verse “who is the Lord, but God” So you may be asking yourself what exactly is David singing about? David explains all of this in Psalm 100…

1.  Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
2     Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;[a]
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
    and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
5 For the Lord is good;
    his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Did you catch what David is singing about?

  1. (vs2) God is present. God we are told, loves his chosen people and desires to live with them for eternity!
  2. (vs3) God made us! We are created in His image and made us for a purpose.
  3. (vs4) we are made to worship, 1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
  4. (vs5) God love is everlasting. The word everlasting is “olam” and it means “no vanishing point, or eternal” God has done everything required, through Jesus, in order to keep this Biblical TRUTH!
  5. (vs 5) God is faithful. Faith in the biblical sense is so cool in it’s use in the grammar. Here is your 5th grade grammar lesson. Faith, when used as a noun, refers to trust or confidence in something, and this trust is directed towards a specific object, person, or idea. Faith’s object is ALWAYS Christ Jesus. Therefore God’s faithfulness is Jesus!!! Jesus is the reason why God can be faithful from now until eternity.

We can sing to the top of our lungs just as David did, pouring out our hearts in joyous celebration and praise. God is the first and the last, the creator of all that is seen and unseen, the faithful friend who stands by us in every season, ever present in our midst and the one we get to worship forever with unyielding love and gratitude. WOW, what a savior we have, a beacon of hope in our darkest moments, always inviting us to draw closer and experience His boundless grace and mercy! Our voices rise in unity, echoing the joy of our salvation and the promise of eternal life in His glorious presence!
