but God…#17

Psalm 18:31 For who is Godbut the Lord? And who is a rock, except our God?

This Psalm of David has 3 main points we can hold close to our hearts just as David did. These truths that David writes about explain how God is ever present and and is faithful even when we sin.

In the first 3 verses God is said to be our power and strength. 2 Corinthians 12:9 – “My grace is all you need, for my power is the greatest when you are weak. David was at the weakest he had ever been in his life and we often feel that exact way. But we are given this promise to not look inside ourselves, like a Disney movie, but look to God where our true power resides.

Secondly,in verses 4-16, God is pictured here as our Rock, Fortress, and Deliverer. David understood that God alone is the one who is able to  deliver him from Saul (the first king of Israel) and Christ alone is the one who has delivered us from “our wretched bodies of death (Romans 7:24)” we have been delivered from sin, death and Satan. God has done all the work. 4. Our Deliverance and to spend eternity with him.

Finally God is said to be faithful and righteous in verse 24-36.  Romans 5:1 states, “Therefore, since we have been made righteous through his faithfulness, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” God, working through his son Jesus Christ, has done all that’s necessary to impute to us, his righteousness.  Jesus’s work of perfectly keeping the law, dying on the cross, being obedient to death, and rising to new life was the only way God could show his faithfulness to his chosen people.

This is why David could say, “Who is God but the Lord?” God is the Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end, and He has made a way for His people in countless miraculous ways throughout history. His loving guidance leads us through times of darkness and uncertainty, instilling hope and peace in our hearts. Who else but God could do that, providing strength when we are weak and comfort when we face trials? His unwavering presence reveals a depth of love that is beyond human understanding, reminding us that we are never alone, even in the toughest moments of our lives. It is this profound connection that inspires us to seek Him wholeheartedly, knowing that His plan for us is perfect and filled with purpose.
