Psalm 64:7 But God shoots his arrow at them; they are wounded suddenly
This is an awesome Psalm…there is a prayer, a problem, and Prophecy!!!
I love that David, the author, starts off and that is with a prayer. Often we only pray as a last resort. I was listening to a group of believers talk to a young lady who had just been diagnosed with liver cancer. She told her story and the response from the group was, “well I guess all we can do is pray for you.” Now don’t mishear me…the intentions were good. They desired, if it be God’s will, that the cancer would be eliminated. However I do find it funny that it came across as if God was not capable and that they had done all they could do so we will give God a chance and see what happens. Simply they were out of good options so they were left to the plans of God. However David starts this Psalm going to the one who can actually move both spiritually and physically.
David writes in verses 3&4..”who whet their tongues like swords, who aim bitter words like arrows, shooting from ambush at the blameless, shooting at him suddenly and without fear.” This is what Satan does to us and this is the “problem” in this Psalm. It states that the enemy throws accusations, false doctrine, lack of assurance and fear…and he does it liberally to see what sticks. Every day we, like David, are bombarded with our own self doubt, insecurities, and lies and this is exactly where Satan likes you to be. However it doesn’t end there..David and ourselves alike can turn to God for our divine deliverance!
Finally in the Psalm we get a prophecy and a promise of deliverance and this amazing”but God” God says God “shoots His arrows at them and So He will make them stumble over their own tongue (Vs8).” God does the work to destroy these evil lies that are so harmful to us. Stop trying to fight with your own strength and look to Christ to do the fighting for you. Rest in the finished work of Christ and know he is for you and not against you. Always remember Satan is a liar but Christ is a promise keeper!
