but God…#24

Psalm 86:15 But you, O Lord, are a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness.

This psalm is awesome because David uses the Hebrew word Adonai (“Master or Lord”) 7 times in this Psalm.  This tells us who God is for us…here is how it is used in the Psalm!

Adonai is:

  1. Grace (vs3)
  2. Keeper of my soul (vs4)
  3. Good and forgiving (vs5)
  4. The only God (vs8)
  5. Full of Glory (vs9)
  6. To be praised (vs12)
  7. Merciful and gracious,
slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness (vs15)

We often forget what a great God we serve. These attributes of God remind us of God’s glory and divinity; they also remind us exactly who He is for us. We have no reason to doubt or be anxious because God is above all and has authority over all. Philippians 4:6-7 says “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds through Christ Jesus.” This verse tells us two things: first, there will be times when you will feel anxious, but secondly, that we can fall back on Christ during our moments of uncertainty and fear. Trust God when life gets hard; lean into God’s strength and mercy, for He understands our struggles deeply and walks alongside us. Remember that His love is unwavering, and His promises are true. God will never leave you or forsake you; He is always right there, ready to provide comfort and guidance. Run to Him, for He is waiting for you with open arms, our ever-present help in times of trouble, ready to lift you up and instill within you a renewed sense of hope, peace, and purpose amidst life’s challenges. Cherish this relationship and cultivate your faith, knowing that in every trial, you are never alone, as His grace abounds in every aspect of your life.
