Isaiah 40:8 The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.
The previous chapters in this book told of Judgement for idolatry and sin. However in Chapter 40 gives the solution to all our sin, then a word of comfort to the people of God. 2 Thessalonians 2:16–17 says,
“Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God our Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort and good hope through grace, comfort your hearts and establish them in every good work and word.” Also in Revelation 21:4 “‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” This comfort talked about is both earthly and eternal. We serve a God who cares about us RIGHT NOW and FOREVER!!!! This is what Isaiah is prophesying about.
God can keep this promise to comfort us because His love has no end. This is exactly what our focus verse is proclaiming to us. Simply that “grass” and “flowers* may die but God and the truth of who alHe is never changes and is secure . “Your word, LORD, is eternal; it stands firm in the heavens” (Psalm 119:89). “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever” (Isaiah 40:8). “I the Lord do not change” (Malachi 3:6). “Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away” (Matthew 24:35). “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever” (Hebrews 13:8). “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows” (James 1:17). There are a lot more verses like these but you get the point.
