Isaiah 50:7 But the Lord God helps me; therefore I have not been disgraced; therefore I have set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be put to shame
The main message of Isaiah 50 is the telling of prophecy concerning the coming Messiah and HIS endurance, obedience, and Joy He he had in coming to be the savior of the world.
Our focus verse begins with the statement that God is sending the son and the Messiah must go through some pretty terrible beatings. (Luke 22:63-65, Mark 15:15; 15:19-20) However Jesus stands with confidence knowing the Father will be with Him. Isaiah 53:5 tells us that But he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities;upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed. This was the plan before the world began that Jesus would endure the cross for His creation. This leads into our next section that Jesus “set His face like a flint”
Jesus knew he would have to endure the public shame, beatings, and death in order to fulfill all the requirements for His believers. This is why Jesus set his face like a flint to Jerusalem. The word “Flint” in Greek means “strong rock” We are told in scriptures all about the theology concerning rocks. Psalm 18:2: “The Lord is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge.” Here, David extols God as a protector and source of safety during times of distress. In Deuteronomy 32:4: Moses proclaims, “He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just.” This verse underscores God’s righteousness, justice, and immutable nature. Also in Matthew 16:18: Jesus declares to Peter, “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it. So what does the rock represent..namely our foundation, refuge, and the foundation of our faith.
This is the mindset that Jesus had. Hebrews 12:2 “Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Jesus DESIRED to go through this shame and torture FOR YOU!!!! This is why He is worthy of our praise not just on Sunday morning but with every breath we take. What a savior we have in Jesus.
