Matthew 26:63 But Jesus kept quiet. Again the High Priest spoke to him, “In the name of the living God I now put you on oath: tell us if you are the Messiah, the Son of God.”

I have heard over the years that Jesus never says that He is God. This is absurd and is a lie from Satan himself. John, though the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, does a great job explaining this.

First in John 8:24: Jesus warns them, “I told you that you would die in your sins, for unless you believe that I am he you will die in your sins.” Here again, claiming the absolute divine title Ego Eimi (“I am”) as essential for spiritual salvation. Why? because only if Jesus is the perfect son of God, is obedient unto death, and is risen back to life,  then all is for not!

Secondly John 8:58: Jesus tells the crowd, “Truly, truly, I say to you, before Abraham was, he [was not, but] I am”. By using the phrase “I am”, Jesus applied God’s special covenant name from the burning bush to Himself (Exodus 3:14). The listeners immediately understood this as a claim to be God and picked up stones to kill Him for blasphemy. This tells us that Jesus is not only the God in the new testament but also the one in the old testament.

Thirdly John 10:30: Jesus states plainly, “I and the Father are one.” The Jewish leaders took up stones again, telling Him that a mere man was making himself a God (John 10:33). Jesus did not correct them or back down from their interpretation. Jesus is God and if you have seen the Father then you have indeed seen God.

The high priest confessed exactly who Jesus is! The Messiah (anointed one of God) The Son of God (our perfect sacrifice and the who who makes the sacrifice on our behalf) and also the Living God (God made flesh who came into His own creation to redeem His people) We have EVERYTHING we need in the the loving arms of King Jesus!!!
